A question that is commonly asked is “how do you stay inspired” Well, I am here to tell you there is no short answer, no one single right way for everyone to stay inspired. We are all individual so we all have individual needs. What inspires one person does not inspire another. I know that answer does not really help you, so I will try to answer in a more helpful way. If I tell you what inspires me, that might in turn inspire you to try something different.
What keeps me inspired is to live life as best as I can. To interact with others and get out and about as much as my current health will allow me. I will visit local parks or places of interest. I live close by the sea so there are beaches to visit as well.
Having said that, I have not been getting out and about as much as I would like. I also know there are many who cannot get out at all. So I would like to share with you the story of what inspired me for the featured art journal page. This inspiration did not require me to go out of my house. Please note, I am not advocating staying in as the preferred option but showing that it is possible to be inspired even if you are unable to go out. The time lapse process video of how I painted the sphere with reflections is available for you to watch. Just scroll down to the end of this article for access.
It started when I was speaking to a friend on Facebook. This friend happens to be a photographer in his spare time. Here is a link to his public facebook page Ken McCormack Images We were talking about photos and inspiration and how to add human elements to photographs. I mentioned that I had seen a few photographs on pinterest I found inspiring. These photos were composed as real life fairytale poses. This then led my friend to send me a couple of awesome photographs of a sphere/crystal ball with nature reflections. Of course being an artists I gained permission to use them as reference for painting. I started initially with a sketch but never got round to painting either of them until………..
…..I remembered that there was a collaboration project due for me to participate in. I am a member of the Creative Arts Collaboration facebook group for youtube creators. We have monthly collaborations and January is Pantone color of the year 2017. I had an aha moment when I saw the colour chosen by Pantone for this year was greenery. Here is a link pantone color of the year 2017 One of the photographs reflected greenery scenery (do you see what I did there? lol ) :), perfect. Now, I did not have a lot of time left to do a full on detailed painting so I decided instead to scale it down and do a quick study in my art journal, nothing perfect. The full on detailed painting might come at a later date ;), watch this space, just don’t hold your breath just in case you have a long wait lol. As an artist I have a habit of having good ideas but not always getting round to doing them as I get distracted by yet another good idea lol So who knows where my head will take me in 2017. Anyway I digress time to wrap up my story. So I picked my moleskine journal, decided on a double spread to give me the room, gathered my supplies and the rest as they say is history. So I chose a project to work on based on a conversation with a friend whos photographs were my first source of inspiration and then the collaboration subject matter was my second boost to encourage me to act on my initial inspiration. Thank you for joining me today. I hope this story has given you some inspiration to try finding your own inspiration wherever you can.
